KAMLOOPS — Kamloops’ building sector is off to an even slower start to the year compared to 2023 but the permit value is nearly on par.

New numbers released by the City of Kamloops Building Inspection Division show $8.4 million in permit activity in January, slightly down from the $10 million during the same month last year.

However, total permits issued in January were 52, well down from the 83 issued at the start of last year.

Just over $7.3 million in value over 13 residential permits in January 2024 is nearly double from the $3.8 million over 17 permits to start last year. Two multi-family permits – three of more units – were worth $6.9 million in January 2024.
