Kamloops cancer centre announcement expected Thursday: sources

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE (5:10 p.m.): The Ministry of Health has now confirmed Minister Adrian Dix will be in Kamloops for an announcement at 11:00 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 8).

EARLIER: CFJC Today has learned B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix is expected to come to Kamloops on Thursday (Feb. 8), to make an announcement regarding the Kamloops cancer centre.

On January 10, 2024, Minister Dix confirmed that the business case for the centre was completed.

“I’m going to look forward to telling you all the details of the business plan when I get up to Kamloops, which should be soon. But the business plan is completed and it was completed exactly in the time frame that we said it would be completed,” stated Dix during a press conference in Vancouver on Jan. 10.

When the cancer centre was first announced by Dix last year, he stated that the plan was to have patients begin getting treated in Kamloops in 2027. It’s unclear if that timeline is still accurate.
