Okanagan Connector crash near Merritt Tuesday claimed one life: B.C. Highway Patrol

MERRITT, B.C. — RCMP are looking into a fatal collision near Merritt earlier this week.

According to a news release from B.C. Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Tuesday (Jan. 23) at about 7:30 p.m. Spokesperson Cpl. Melissa Jongema says a pickup truck collided with a semi-truck on the Okanagan Connector near Hamilton Hill.

Investigators believe the semi-truck was eastbound when it slid off the highway and hit the ditch. It was then struck by an eastbound pickup truck.

Jongema says the passenger in the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene, while the pickup’s driver was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The driver of the semi was not injured and Jongema says they are co-operating with investigators.
