KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack volleyball teams fell to the Trinity Western University Spartans at home Thursday (Jan. 25).

The women’s WolfPack volleyball team held a 2-0 lead after two sets and came within four points of winning the third and final set, but fell to the Spartans 3-2 (25-19, 25-20, 22-25, 15-25, 10-15).

“We played with good energy and were good from the service line early.” Chad Grimm, women’s WolfPack head coach says. “We had chances to win and were up late in the third but at the end of the day I thought that in critical situations we just didn’t take care of the ball well enough. A little bit of panic set in and we tried to rush to the finish line. We haven’t had success against the upper echelon in our league and that showed tonight, we couldn’t continue to play our game in the moments where we needed to.”

The women’s WolfPack volleyball team fall to 6-11 on the season and sit 11th in the Canada West standings, a half game back of a playoff spot.

Elsewhere, the men’s WolfPack volleyball team tell to Trinity Western 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 20-25, 14-15). The WolfPack fall to 9-8 and 9th in the Canada West standings, one spot out of the eighth and final playoff spot.

“We struggled to get any kind of rhythm going,” Pat Hennelly, men’s WolfPack head coach says. “We got out-dug in our gym; we served okay but we got out-served in our gym… It’s been a heavy, emotional road leading up to this. We are going to regroup tomorrow, and I think we’ll be cleaner and tighter in terms of our execution.”

A pair of rematches with Trinity Western is scheduled for Friday afternoon at the Tournament Capital Centre. The women play at 2:30 p.m. and the men play at 4:15 p.m.
