KAMLOOPS — Mother Nature is performing an encore for Kamloops after a snowy showing on Wednesday.

Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for the South Thompson region Friday (Jan. 19). Around 10 centimetres of snow is expected by Friday evening, but northwestern parts of the region may receive up to 15 centimetres.

It’s due to a Pacific frontal system mixing with lingering cold air that will bring periods of heavy snow. Snow will continue before becoming mixed with ice pellets Friday evening and tapering off.

Elsewhere, the weather agency issued a freezing rain warning for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt and the Trans Canada Highway through the Fraser Canyon near Boston Bar.

The freezing rain is expected to ease or transition to showers or flurries by Saturday morning, but in the meantime surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

Environment Canada asks drivers to be prepared to adjust their driving as weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
