It is in grief and with sadness we say goodbye to our loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Murray Romano. Murray passed away suddenly and unexpectedly just days away from his favourite holiday of Christmas.
Murray was born in Kamloops, B.C. to Mary and Anthony (Tony) Romano and was the middle of five children. He was raised in Kamloops where he proudly resided his entire life. He attended school at John Todd, McArthur Park, and graduated from NorKam. He took various college courses and tested the waters of different careers in his earlier years: butcher, baker, optometry office assistant, and prison guard. In 1980 Murray began his life-long occupation with the City of Kamloops, where he worked in Pools, Arenas, Parks, and Road Maintenance. He was employed with the City for an impressive 36.5 years and took great pride in his career.
In his youth, Murray spent many cherished summers at the family cabin on Little Shuswap where he learned to fish, waterski, snorkel, and get up to shenanigans with his brothers. The family sold the cabin long ago, but the area has always held a special place in Murray’s heart.
In 1978 he was blessed with his first child, Darlene, and 3 years later his second child, Vincent. He worked hard to make sure they were taken care of and felt loved every day. While raising his children, camping was a favourite family pastime and many summers were spent out at his beloved Shuswap Lake.
Through the years, Murray enjoyed fishing, playing golf, reading, playing cribbage and cards, and listening to music (especially from the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s). He even DJ’d at weddings and other events from time to time. He had an adventurous spirit and travelled both locally and abroad. He was fortunate to have gone to the Bahamas and Japan (twice) and his stories were always entertaining! He loved pets and always had cats, dogs, and even a “Grandpa Fish” betta. Above all, his ultimate fulfillment was spending time with his family.
Murray had a quirky sense of humour and one of his greatest joys was being a comedian and making people laugh. He adored photography and preserved his most treasured memories in his numerous photo albums. He always had a camera around his neck and was ready for the next great shot. Being the historian and genealogist of the family, he spent endless hours researching all persons connected to his ‘famiglia’.
He was predeceased by his mother, Mary, and his father, Tony. He is survived by his children Darlene and Vincent (Taunya); his grandchildren Jaydah, Helayna, Azlyn, and Thairyn; his sisters Wanda (Sonny Tomlinson) and Helen (Paul Martinez); his brothers Norman (Anita) and Mark; and his nephews/niece Mitchell, Mateo, and Megan. He will forever be in their hearts and is missed very much everyday. His passion and integrity to those he loved was unwavering. His infectious smile and laugh will live on forever.
A celebration of his life will be held in the early spring at the Columbo Lodge in Kamloops, B.C.
