KAMLOOPS — Logan Stankoven’s first season of professional hockey is going well.

The Kamloops-born Stankoven was announced as an American Hockey League (AHL) all-star Wednesday (Jan. 10). He will join Texas Stars teammates Mavrik Bourque and Matej Blumel at the Feb. 4-5 event in San Jose, California.

Stankoven’s former Blazers teammate Olen Zellweger, now playing for the San Diego Gulls, will also go the league’s mid-season showcase.

All-star rosters were determined by a committee of AHL coaches.

Stankoven, drafted 47th overall by the Dallas Stars in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, is the top scoring rookie in the AHL this season with 39 points in 31 games. He sits second in league scoring, two points behind teammate Bourque.

Stankoven spent his entire five-year Western Hockey League career with his hometown Blazers. He was named Canadian Hockey League Player of the Year after the 2021-22 season.

Zellweger was drafted 34th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. He is the second-highest scoring rookie defenceman in the league with 22 points in 29 games.

The Calgary-born Zellweger spent most of his WHL career with the Everett Silvertips, but was traded to the Blazers midway through the 2022-23 season. He finished out the season with 52 points in 32 games as a Blazer, before registering 29 more points in the WHL playoffs.
