KAMLOOPS – Environment Canada says heavy snow with strong winds and near zero visibility is expected on the Coquihalla highway from Hope to Merritt, beginning on Monday (Jan. 8) afternoon.

“A series of weather systems are expected to bring heavy snow to the BC Interior beginning Monday late in the day. A frontal system will sweep through the region on Monday, followed by a slow moving low pressure system that could linger through to early Wednesday,” the weather agency stated.

Still according to the agency, winds will be very strong and conditions will be “blizzard-like, with cold wind chill and near zero visibility.”

Residents are advised to avoid travel if possible.
