Significant snow, minus double digit temperatures forecast for Kamloops next week: Environment Canada

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops could be in store for a more traditional taste of winter next week.

Environment Canada’s forecast as of Friday (Jan. 5) morning is calling for snow from Monday morning to Tuesday morning and temperatures to reach minus double digits by mid-to-late week.

Matt Loney, a senior meteorologist with Environment Canada, says a moist airmass from the North Pacific is expected to be cool enough to create snow. It’s then expected to mix with Arctic air in the mid-to-late part of next week.

“It’s a bit early at this time because we don’t quite know the track of the storm, but I wouldn’t rule out at least a few centimetres on the ground for the start of the week,” Loney told CFJC Today. “As we get deeper into next week, we do see a decent chance for temperatures to drop, although computer models are giving us mixed signals as to how cold that air truly will be.”
