Accident closes Highway 5 North of Kamloops; One transported to hospital

BARRIERE — UPDATE 10:20 A.M.

BC Emergency Health Service confirmed in an email to CFJC News that one patient was transported to hospital this morning.

“BC Emergency Health Services received a call at 6:54 a.m. today about a motor vehicle incident in the 2600 block of Highway 5, south of Barriere. An air ambulance, supervisor, three ambulances with both primary care and advanced care paramedics responded. Paramedics cared for and transported one patient by ground ambulance to hospital in stable condition,” says Paramedic Public Information Officer, Brian Twaites.

BC RCMP added that the incident was a two car collision.

“Initial investigation shows that a vehicle drove into an on-coming lane, resulting in a collision between it and another vehicle,” reads a statement from the BC RCMP.

Earlier:

A vehicle accident has closed a stretch of Highway 5 between Kamloops and Barriere.

Drive BC is reporting the accident is stopping traffic in both directions near Clough Road and Shook Road. The road is closed for 5.3 kilometres, just south of the community of Barriere.

The next update is expected from Drive BC at 9:00 A.M. (Dec. 28).
