RCMP, Kamloops businesses to relaunch Inadmissible Patron Program

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops RCMP detachment is reviving its Inadmissible Patron Program (IPP) with local restaurants and pubs.

The program targets those displaying gang insignia or “whose lifestyle, associations and activities, directly or indirectly pose a risk to public safety.” Those identified as meeting that definition will be denied service and ejected.

In a news release, Supt. Jeff Pelley says the program will return this Friday (Dec. 22).

“This policy is intended to send a strong message to criminals in Kamloops — you’re not welcome here and if we recognize that you are in one of our partner establishments, you will be told to leave,” said Pelley.

Participating businesses will display signage at their entry explaining the program.

The IPP was launched in Kamloops in 2018, but was put on hold during the period of increased social gathering restrictions prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Pelley said the detachment’s Crime Prevention and Crime Reduction Units began reaching out to potential business partners in November to determine if there was interest in bringing the program back.

“The Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association (KCBIA) is pleased to announce our endorsement of the RCMP’s Inadmissible Patrons Policy Program in downtown Kamloops,” said Howie Reimer, KCBIA Executive Director. “This initiative ensures a safer and more welcoming environment throughout our neighbourhood.”

If there are other businesses interested in partnering with the RCMP detachment on the program, they are asked to call the detachment at (250) 828-3000.
