KAMLOOPS — A growing memorial is taking shape along McGill Road in Kamloops to honour the victims of Wednesday’s fatal crash.

Bright WolfPack orange is proudly displayed at the scene of a devastating multi-vehicle incident that took the life of one member of the TRU Wolfpack men’s volleyball team and has left two others in serious condition in hospital.

The young player killed has now been identified by his mother on social media as Owyn McInnis, a fourth-year outside hitter from Guelph, Ontario. His mother did state in her post that a criminal investigation is underway by local Mounties.

“Our son had no chance to survive. Medical professionals worked so hard to save Owyn. You can’t unring those words from the coach and ER doctor. I can only imagine the difficulty they had in making the call. Our family and myself are in Kamloops, putting the pieces together and since there is a criminal investigation ongoing we will know more in the days to come,” reads an Instagram post from Erin Walter.

The sidewalk where the accident occurred has been filled with flowers, WolfPack gear and messages to the university’s fallen brother.

“As we navigate these unbearable waters, please send love and energy to the two other boys, we don’t want another set of parents to experience what we are right now. I’m numb, that Sunday was the last day I’ll ever see my son again. Child loss is heartbreaking,” continued the post.

All WolfPack games have been postponed indefinitely out of respect to the families and the players.
