B100 Toy House campaign to collect gifts for Christmas Amalgamated begins

KAMLOOPS – Tiny houses are popping up at retail locations across the city as the B100 Toy Houses campaign kicked off Monday (Nov. 19).

While these houses may be too small to house a family, they will help bring some Christmas joy to a family in need this holiday season.

Set up in seven locations around Kamloops, people are encouraged to donate new, unwrapped toys and gifts for youth, which will help stock the shelves at Christmas Amalgamated.

Sally Whitson, founder of Christmas Amalgamated, said gifts for any age are welcome but items for older children are especially needed.

“We would prefer to have a lot of things for the older kids, for boys and even for girls” Whitson said, adding donations can be anything a kid or teen might want. “I have very few of the perfumes and all the fancy stuff that I make these baskets out of, they include everything that girls would like and they’re quite popular.”

According to Whitson, these house-shaped drop-off locations are essential to keeping Christmas Amalgamated operating year after year.

“The toy boxes provide us with all the toys for children in all different ages and sizes, they’re absolutely necessary,” she said. “The surplus, even from last year’s toy boxes, are what we’re starting with this year and between that and the donations, it helps us to be able to give toys to every single family.”
