KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops has launched a new book recycling program. The new initiative provides residents with two dedicated sports to drop off their old books and textbooks, which cannot be accepted under the city’s curbside and multi-family recycling program.

“It’s helping keep our recycling clean and giving residents more of an opportunity to recycle more items,” said Marcia Dick, the solid waste reduction coordinator with the City of Kamloops. “Books are not accepted in our recycling program and are actually one of the biggest sources of contamination we have. We have an obligation to reduce contamination and we’re seeing upwards of 5 per cent in our recycling program,” she added.

After the books are dropped off, they will be sorted. Those that are in good condition will be set aside for donation. Any residential paper items, such as magazines, can be placed in the blue bin for recycling.
