MP Caputo denounces antisemitic vandalism on Kamloops North Shore

KAMLOOPS – Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo MP Frank Caputo has added his voice to the many speaking out against antisemitism.

There has been a rise in antisemitic incidents following Israel’s response to attacks by Hamas in October.

In Canada, pro-Palestine rallies were held in various cities including Vancouver. Some included speakers who crossed the line between denouncing Israel’s actions and denouncing Jews.

The local MP says this sort of discrimination has no place in Canada.

Earlier today, a North Shore business had been vandalized with swastikas.

“I want to be clear, these types of depictions have no place in Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo, and no place in Canada,” Caputo told CFJC News. “Anything that is anti-Semitic, anything that discriminates against somebody or puts down somebody’s culture, someone’s race, someone’s ethnic origin has no place.”

The images were quickly painted over, but Caputo hopes the culprits will come forward.

“These people should own up to what they did and take whatever consequences come with that,” Caputo said. “On a personal level, there needs to be consequences. There needs to be accountability.”
