KAMLOOPS — While the outdoor season ended in October, the Kamloops Farmer’s Market has found a new home for the 2023-24 winter season.

The Mount Paul Community Centre, located at 140 Laburnum Street, will host the market on Saturdays from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm in its cold-weather home.

While there are fewer vendors and less fresh produce available going forward, there are many great options for folks looking for locally produced items.

“There’s still a lot of produce available. A lot of it is your root vegetables, like carrots, potatoes and garlic. There’s tons of squash and we even have microgreens because they can be grown year-round indoors,” Farmer’s Market Manager Greg Unger explains. “We also have a slice of all the favourites from the outdoor market.”

The indoor version of the Farmer’s Market runs until the holidays in December, before taking a break for a couple of weeks. It picks back up from mid-January until the end of February and hopes to offer not only some local food options for folks looking for those but also the camaraderie and community of the spring and summer market.

“It’s a fun thing to do. You can come in and get some potatoes and a loaf of bread and talk to some friends. I think it’s pretty fun in here,” Unger says. “It’s a great time on a Saturday morning. You can sleep in, come on down. We’re looking forward to the community support. We just want everyone to come check us out.”
