WolfPack win 2-0 over MacEwan, punch a ticket to the Canada West quarterfinals
EDMONTON — It came down to the final contest of the CanadaWest (CW) season for the defending national champs.
The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s soccer team ensured a spot in the postseason for a sixth straight year with a win over the Grant MacEwan University Griffins on Sunday (October 21st). Originally scheduled for September 17th, Sunday’s game against MacEwan was postponed due to air quality concerns in Edmonton.
Alesandro Comita and Dylan Hooper each had a pair of points on the afternoon for TRU, as Comita opened the scoring in the 74th minute on a pass from Hooper. Comita returned the favour to Hooper in the 88th minute on the insurance marker for the WolfPack.
The win moved TRU’s record to 7-7-1 and secured fourth place in the CW Pacific Division for TRU. They’ll now cross over and take on the Prairie Division’s top-seeded Mount Royal University Cougars in Calgary next weekend.
