COLLINS: Quit whining, get your shot — and wear the damn mask

Oct 20, 2023 | 6:00 AM

SORRY, BUT THERE’S no easier way to put this.

With COVID rearing its ugly head again, and mask mandates coming back into prominence, we will, if we haven’t already, see increased protests from those “antis” who believe the masks and the vaccines are useless.

I’m sure not the expert to tell them they’re wrong. I believe them to be wrong — but when I see trusted friends, nurses and some physicians arguing against the shots and masks, I have to wonder “truth, conspiracy theory, or a combination of both?” I don’t have a definitive answer.

But I do have an answer. And it’s simple. Get the shot, quit whining — and wear the damn mask! Don’t put your pettiness ahead of the health of others.

If there’s even the slightest chance of you spreading COVID, doesn’t it behoove you to err on the side of caution? Especially if you’re in the field of health care? This is not some big violation of your rights. It’s more the protection of the rights of others, who have a right to be protected from even the chance of disease spreading from others.

I think back a few years to other health crises and seeing the vast numbers of visitors and immigrants from China. They were constantly wearing their masks, and we kind of chuckled and said, “You don’t need those here. A little much, isn’t it?” Turns out, they had the right idea.

There is no evidence the mask causes any problems, so just wear it. It’s not a sacrifice. There is little evidence the shot causes any problems, although, to be fair, some do have concerns. But they are not significant.

So even if you don’t think they’re of any value, think of them as a random act of kindness to put someone else’s mind at ease.

I’m Doug Collins and that’s One Man’s Opinion.
