Kamloops drivers asked to plan ahead as school-zone speed limits return
KAMLOOPS — Kids are going back to school Tuesday (Sept. 5), meaning drivers will need to go back to obeying school zone speed limits.
Kamloops RCMP say the return of school-zone speed limits will be accompanied by traffic enforcement throughout the academic year. Drivers are reminded to obey the reduced speed limits of 30 km/h in school zones between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday during school days.
“Speeding in school zones poses a risk to our children. The school zones are in effect for everyone’s safety,” Cpl. Dana Napier says.
Additionally, drivers are asked to plan to allow for extra traffic and slower speeds, be alert for young people walking as they leave their driveway or garage and obey the stop sign and flashing stop lights on a school bus.
