ERT team called to Columbia Street residence Saturday
KAMLOOPS — The RCMP’s Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called out to a residence in the 500 block of Columbia Street at approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday night in Kamloops.
Police were responding to a call of a person in crisis who was armed with weapons. Once police arrived, the man in distress barricaded himself in his unit and refused to communicate with authorities.
“Neighbouring units were evacuated during the response as a safety precaution due to the risk presented,” said RCMP Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson.
Once ERT arrived, they were able to safely enter the unit and apprehend the man. He was taken into custody under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for medical assessment and care.
