FortisBC offering energy credits to evacuated home owners and businesses
KAMLOOPS — FortisBC says it will not charge residents and businesses of evacuated properties for any energy used over the period of their evacuation order.
In a news release Friday (Aug. 25), FortisBC says the last thing wildfire evacuees need to worry about at this time, is an energy bill. “We understand the ongoing wildfire situation has had a number of impacts on many of our customers, especially for those evacuated from their homes or businesses,” said Sarah Nelson, director, customer service, FortisBC.
It says to make the billing relief process simple, it will automatically apply a credit by cross-referencing billing data with evacuation information from municipalities, First Nations band councils, the provincial government, and its operations team. Depending on the timing of the evacuation, billing cycles and the volume of customers impacted, it says the credits may take several months to appear on bills.
