BC SPCA struggling to keep up with number of evacuated animals

KAMLOOPS — Pet owners who have been evacuated and cannot take their pets with them are turning to the Kamloops BC SPCA shelter for help. However, the animal shelter is struggling to find space for all of the evacuated animals.

“We don’t have the capacity. Our kennels are almost full,” Ashley Fontaine-Ost, BC SPCA Regional Manager told CFJC News.

“We are running out of space and we are really hoping that community members can help us out.”

To free up some space, Fontaine-Ost is encouraging people to either adopt an animal or offer them a foster home.

“This morning already we’ve taken 14 animals from evacuated members of the community,” she said.

“We are asking the public for help. If you’re thinking about adopting, now is the time.”

The Kamloops branch is also looking for donations of pet food to help meet the increased demand.
