City of Kamloops closes its nature parks and trails again

KAMLOOPS — Nature parks and trails within Kamloops city limits will be closed once again.

In a news release, the City of Kamloops says the closure will begin at 4 p.m. Friday (Aug. 18) due to extreme fire danger, recent weather conditions and current drought conditions. The closure includes the Kamloops Bike Ranch.

The announcement comes three days after the City stated it was “prepared to allow nature spaces to remain open due to an increased presence and readiness from [B.C. Wildfire Service] in our area.” It’s the second time in August the City has closed its parks and trails.

The parks will be closed to bike, pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The city says parks crews are installing closure signs and will continue to do so over the next few days. Crews will also monitor city parks to ensure residents and visitors are abiding by closures, and Community Services Officers may issue fines for violations.
