Tk’emlups te Secwepemc issues water restrictions amid drought conditions

KAMLOOPS — Tk’emlups te Secwepemc is aiming to reduce community-wide water use by 25 per cent.

In a news release issued Wednesday (Aug. 16), Tk’emlups states it is due to the North and South Thompson basins experiencing Level 5 drought conditions, the most severe level of drought.

Water restrictions in effect on Tk’emlups land includes a ban on:

• outdoor watering and irrigating, except hand-held, spring loaded nozzles
• sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems
• pressure washing for aesthetic purposes

Additionally, the washing of vehicles and boats will only be allowed at car washing businesses, unless it’s for safety purposes.
