City of Kamloops suggests ways to keep your home cool during summer heatwave
KAMLOOPS — With an extreme heat warning in place during daylight hours, and daytime highs expected to remain in the mid-30s until at least Thursday (Aug. 17), the City of Kamloops has some tips to help heatproof your home.
According to Jaimi Garbutt, Sustainability Educator with the City of Kamloops, there are some simple ways to help minimize the hot air entering your home during this stretch of hot weather. That includes closing blinds and curtains, using fans for airflow, and making sure your home is as airtight as possible.
“There’s foam you can use around older windows, as well as v-strips. There’s also some cling wrap that can go around the entire window, as well,” Garbutt explains. “A lot of people think that they should draft-proof their home in the winter, but the summer is a great time because you’re going to keep the hot air out and the cool air in.”
