Hillside Stadium to reopen weeks ahead of schedule as track replacement project reaches finish line

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops says a major facilities project is on the verge of finishing well ahead of schedule.

In a news release, Business Operations and Events Supervisor Sean Smith says Hillside Stadium will reopen to the public and user groups next Monday (Aug. 21). That’s almost one month ahead of the planned reopening date.

A resurfacing project for the stadium’s track has closed the facility since June 12. It was initially scheduled to reopen on September 15.

The project included the installation of a Mondotrack surface, replacing the polyurethane track the city described as outdated.

In addition to residents, the facility will now be available for the Kamloops Broncos football team and TRU athletes.

Smith notes the Tournament Capital Centre fieldhouse remains closed for maintenance until August 24. The Canada Games Aquatic Centre is also closed for maintenance, with an anticipated reopening date of September 4.
