29th Hot Nite in the City sees thousands in attendance

KAMLOOPS — Car enthusiasts gathered in the streets of downtown Kamloops over the weekend to display their vintage and exotic cars to spectators.

Hot Nite in the City has been around for nearly 30 years, attracting those that enjoy looking at the fine details on each car displayed. Lars Jensen’s 1967 Shelby GT 350 is one of 549 cars and trucks on display at the event. It’s a car he’s been a fan of from the time he was a child.

“Even back when I was a little kid, I’d see these cars driving around and see them in different car shows and I just had to have one.” Jensen told CFJC Today.

The 306 horsepower ride is one Jensen has owned for the last 14 years. A ride that sparks curiosity from spectators.

“Every time I go to the gas station, there’s two or three people that wanna come up and talk to you about the car. How long have you owned it, what year it is. It’s actually quite a privilege to own this car.”

William Lindsay and his 1972 Corvette Stingray is another vintage ride that is on display. One of the unique parts about his sweet ride is the chrome bumpers on the front and back of the car.

“They had chrome front bumper in 1973 but all the rest of the stuff stopped being built on the cars. So it’s kind of a collector type vehicle and very unique for this design and stuff.” said Lindsay.

With thousands of people filling up Victoria Street, they admire the variety of cars on display.

“If you like classics, they’re here. If you like European it’s here. Everything is here and it’s all so well done.” one couple said.

Representatives from Hot Nite in the City say 35,000 people were at last year’s event. They expect to surpass that amount given the different events going on in the city.

“ All you have to do is look and see the people,” Event Organizer Ron Popove said. “This is a great event for the City of Kamloops in conjunction with Ribfest, Farmers Market, the canoe races. It’s just a great event for the city.”
