KAMLOOPS – In a recent news release by Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, people in B.C. are encouraged to prepare for heat as temperatures are set to rise beginning August 13.

High temperatures are anticipated over Vancouver Island and southwestern B.C. and is expected to move across the southern Interior over the course of a week.

The Province is assisting and helping communities open cooling centres by reimbursing eligible costs to First Nations and local governments. People are advised to be careful during this prolonged time as soaring temperatures have a negative impact on health.

Emergency Management and Climate Readiness say that increase in temperatures is linked to higher risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke along with heat-related illness especially in young children and older adults. People who are pregnant and those with existing health conditions need to be cautious and take precautions.
