KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP are seeking witnesses to a large brush fire that ignited in the West End neighbourhood over the weekend.

In a news release issued Tuesday (Aug. 8) morning, RCMP say officers were called to the 300-block of St. Paul Street West just before 5 p.m. Sunday to assist Kamloops Fire Rescue.

“Thankfully, the fire was quickly extinguished preventing damage to any nearby businesses,” S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet says. “This is however very concerning given the very dry conditions throughout the entire region.”

Police are looking to speak to a man who was seen in the area at the time of the fire. He is described as white, in his fifties, and wearing grey sweatpants and a backpack.
