Tk’emlúps chief and council pledge to banish, evict drug dealers caught on reserve
TK’EMLUPS — Chief and Council of Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc are talking tough about drug dealing on reserve lands.
In a news release posted to the First Nation’s website, Kukpi7 Rosanne Casimir and her councillors say the community is working with Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP to “identify and remove illicit drug dealers on reserve.”
The statement says anyone caught trafficking substances on the reserve will be immediately banished and anyone caught selling drugs out of homes owned by Tk’emlúps will be evicted.
Casimir says band leadership considers drug dealers “individuals who are criminally negligent.” She notes the health and safety of the community are chief and council’s highest priority, and they are “exploring every avenue possible to address the opioid crisis in our community.”
