‘A bit of a sting’; Tk’emlups Kukpi7 disappointed after losing out on 2027 Indigenous Games

KAMLOOPS — After coming up short in the opportunity to host the 2027 North American Indigenous Games, Tk’emlups Kukpi7 (Chief) Rosanne Casimir spoke on the community coming in second to Calgary.

“I think the biggest part was probably infrastructure,” Casimir told CFJC Today. “Also the capacity to host up to 8,000 individuals, you know, youth to be participating in sports. I know that here we are the Tournament Capital but when we’re looking at, for instance, the [Sandman Centre], that hosts up to 5,500.”

“We were very humbled to have the opportunity to be putting in a bid in partnership with the City of Kamloops and to hear that we didn’t or we weren’t the successful bidder definitely had a bit of a sting.”
