Kamloops teen dies after slipping into Akolkolex Falls near Revelstoke

REVELSTOKE — A Kamloops teenager has died in a freak accident at the Akolkolex Falls near Revelstoke.

In a news release, RCMP says the 15-year-old girl was on a hike when she slipped on some rocks and fell into the falls at approximately 6 p.m. Sunday (July 16).

The stepfather of the girl dove into the water to rescue the girl. When both failed to resurface, RCMP, paramedics, firefighters and search and rescue crews were called to the scene.

RCMP say the man was spotted by search and rescue crews in a helicopter. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening. The girl’s body was found the next day by RCMP and Search and Rescue personnel.

RCMP says the BC Coroners Service has taken the lead in the investigation.
