Crown seeks acquittal of two men convicted in 1973 killing in Winnipeg
WINNIPEG — The Crown is seeking the acquittal of two First Nations men convicted of killing a restaurant worker in Winnipeg a half-century ago.
Crown attorney Michelle Jules said Tuesday the Manitoba Prosecution Services acknowledges a miscarriage of justice occurred in the case of Brian Anderson and Allan Woodhouse.
“Systemic racism impacted the investigation (and) prosecution,” Jules told Court of King’s Bench Chief Justice Glenn Joyal.
“Our justice system failed,” Jules added. “Failed to provide them a fair trial.”
