KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP are hoping to contact a potential witness in an ongoing sexual assault investigation in the city’s West End.

In a news release issued Monday (July 17) morning, police say a woman was jogging near the walking path between Strathcona Terrace and St. Paul Street West when the assault took place shortly after 9 p.m. on July 9. The jogger is as a woman wearing florescent yellow shorts, a black sports top and pink sweatband jogging toward Powers Road from the St. Paul Street pathway.

RCMP previously said the victim was walking on a path between Strathcona Terrace and St. Paul Street West when a man closed in from behind and grabbed her “in a sexual nature.” The assault led to an altercation and the victim was able to escape. The suspect left the area, walking toward Strathcona Terrace.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 40s with a beard and medium building. He was described as wearing a dark hat, shirt and shorts.

“Since then, the investigation has been progressing well and police anticipate it will continue to advance toward the charge assessment phase in the near future,” Supt. Jeff Pelley says. “No similar assault reports have been received since last Sunday, and we continue to encourage anyone with information that may be related to please contact police as soon as possible.”

Anyone who knows the described jogger or was someone who saw anything suspicious in the area, is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file number 2023-24436.
