Two killed in Wednesday crash near Revelstoke; three survivors pulled from wreckage

KAMLOOPS — RCMP are confirming the details of a horrific highway crash near Three Valley Gap Wednesday afternoon (July 12).

In a news release, Sgt. Chris Dodds of Revelstoke RCMP says the incident was called in at about 12:36 p.m. Wednesday, about five kilometres west of Three Valley Lake on the Trans Canada Highway.

When first responders arrived, two vehicles were fully engulfed in flames.

Two people were killed in the crash, and bystanders were giving first aid to three others. Dodds says the three survivors are fortunate some brave heroes were nearby.

“Two off-duty Calgary Police Service officers, along with a BC Sheriff, witnessed the collision occur, and sprang into action to pull three victims from one of the vehicles prior to it being fully engulfed in flames,” said Dodds. “It was an absolute display of bravery by these career first responders.”

Two of the survivors were taken to hospital by ground ambulance and the third was airlifted to hospital. Revelstoke Fire Services arrived on scene to douse the resulting fire.
