CP Officer assaulted on Canada Day
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP officers are investigating after a Canadian Pacific (CP) Police Service officer was injured while arresting a man this weekend.
On Canada Day, Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were en route to a disturbance report when they were advised that a CP Police officer had located and allegedly been assaulted by the suspect while arresting him.
“Kamloops RCMP officers took over custody of the suspect and arrested him for assaulting a police officer,” said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson. “The CP officer sustained a non-life-threatening injury. As part of the investigation, police interviewed witnesses on scene, but if anyone else saw or knows anything related to this incident, please do not hesitate to reach out and share that information,” said Cpl. Evelyn.
The suspect was lodged in cells to sober up safely, then released with a court date and conditions. Charge recommendations are anticipated as part of the assessment and approval process.
