QUESNEL, B.C. — It was a tragic weekend in Quesnel with a pair of fatal crashes.

The first occurred on July 1 at approximately 6:45 a.m. when Quesnel RCMP responded to a report of a 52-year-old deceased man in the ditch on Dragon Hill along Highway 97.

“The investigation indicated the man was travelling down Dragon Hill on his bicycle when he struck a light pole and went off the road into the ditch where he was located,” says Sgt. Clay Kronebusch. “The man was not wearing a helmet and the bicycle did not appear to have functioning brakes.”

Police say the incident serves as a reminder to ensure you wear proper safety equipment and that your bicycle is functioning properly.

The other death occurred July 3 at approximately 7:36 p.m. with police responding to a report of a UTV crash in the Blue Lake area of Moffatt Lake Road.

“A 52-year-old woman who was the passenger in the vehicle was deceased. The driver suffered minor injuries. Alcohol was believed to be a factor in the collision and the investigation is ongoing,” says Kronebusch.

He says the incident is a reminder to use caution when operating off-road vehicles.
