KAMLOOPS — On Wednesday (June 28), the 2023 Kamloops Y Dream Home Lottery held its draw at the home on Coldwater Drive in Juniper West. The annual charity event had its most valuable grand prize ever, with the home valued at nearly $1.4 million.

Unlike many in the dream home draw, Tom Beveridge had not actually seen his new home until this morning when the Kamloops Y’s Bryce Herman handed over the keys to the Juniper West home.

“The view is really what captures my attention when I come into the space. I mean it’s designed to do that to as you enter the space,” said Beveridge of his first impressions of the home.

“The whole idea of being able to get in and see that house with them for the first time, the shock and awe. And for this year’s winners they had not been to the open houses or anything else. so this truly was their first opportunity to see this home and really get a chance to absorb the beauty and the view and everything else,” added Herman.

The timing for Beveridge is truly serendipitous for the man who had dedicated his life to the community, working with local school district. Even before his big win, Friday was set to be his final day.

“We just feel grateful, its a blessing,” stated Beveridge. “I mean retirement is a shift from one thing to another, I think its crazy to just stop. I have other plans for work and creative exploration. It’s a lot of huge change in a short period of time.”

For Beveridge who actually joked with his wife on Wednesday morning about winning the home, he never expected to hear is name called.

“We really support what the Y does. With my work with the school district we really value the Y programs, particularly for children and youth and women’s shelters. With all the Y does in the community we just considered it a donation,” said Beveridge.

While he and his wife have yet to make a decision on whether or not he plans to keep the home, after stepping in the front door and seeing the million dollar view, he admits selling would be difficult.

“We are nature lovers and to be able to just see that right away and from every vista in the home is pretty appealing,” remarked Beveridge.
