NorthPaws take pitchers duel over defending champs in series opener
KAMLOOPS — The slump is over for the Kamloops NorthPaws who picked up their long awaited first win of the season on Friday (June 9) night at Dearborn Ford Field at Norbrock Stadium.
In their first ever meeting, the Paws dispatched the six-time running defending West Coast League Champion Corvallis Knights 1-0 behind a stellar pitching performance from the entire staff.
Griffin Almond was credited with the win after pitching five innings of work, scattering just 2 hits and 0 runs. He would be followed by Kamloops native Manny Recchi, David Jeon, and TRU’s Kolby Lukinchuk registered his first save of the season.
The lone run in the contest came on and RBI triple from Drew Giannini in the 1st inning which drove home Tommy Green. Despite a stellar performance of his own, Merit Jones was given the hard-luck loss, pitching 5 innings of 2-hit, 1-run ball.
