Kamloops bakery owners looking to pass on business through a unique contest
KAMLOOPS — The owners of Erwin’s Bakery are looking to turn over their well-known operation through a business skills competition. Robyn and Shawn Haley will be giving the bakery to the person who submits the best essay.
Robyn and Shawn Haley have owned the bakery since 2008, right before the world economy collapsed. They hope to prevent the new owners from having to take on a heavy debt load, improving their chances of success.
“It was a pretty scary ten years to follow that because traditionally someone coming in has to take on a lot of debt and get financing,” Co-owner Robyn Haley told CFJC Today. “To do all of that and have the bottom fall out of the whole world was a little terrifying.”
The bakery is looking for a minimum of 500 people to put their entries in for the contest before they decide who will take over the bakery. The entry fee is $1,000.
