PHOTOS: Memorial Cup arrives, Blazers to wear jerseys honouring Indigenous veterans
KAMLOOPS — One day ahead of the tournament’s beginning, the Memorial Cup trophy arrived in Kamloops Thursday afternoon.
An Arrival of the Cup ceremony was held at the Tk’emlups Powwow Arbour, where it was also unveiled that the host Kamloops Blazers will wear commemorative jerseys in their tournament opener.
While the jersey still has the signature Blazers blue, orange and white colours, the Canadian Hockey League says in a social media post that a commemorative pin at the centre represents the Legion Poppy on the centre of a dreamcatcher with their coupling acknowledging the efforts and sacrifices of veterans from all Indigenous communities.
