KAMLOOPS — After teasing Kamloops with it since the 1990s, the provincial government says it is committed to building a cancer care centre in the city.

Health Minister Adrian Dix made the announcement Thursday morning at a parking lot just west of Royal Inland Hospital.

Dix says the concept plan for the centre has been approved and a business plan is expected to be approved before the end of the year. Timeline for construction is not yet clear.

The centre will offer radiation and other treatments cancer patients require. Currently, they must travel to Kelowna for those services.
