KAMLOOPS — As they continue with training camp at Hillside Stadium, the B.C. Lions devote a day to their beloved fan base.

FanFest, an annual event during training camp is where several activities take place. Whether it’s watching the team in a scrimmage or practicing like the athletes dawning the orange and black, it’s a day that the players shift their focus to the fans.

“A lot of people support us and it’s a good way to give back,” Linebacker Boseko Lokombo tells CFJC Today. “It’s a way for us to play in front of our beautiful fans here in Kamloops. It’s good for families as well since there’s a lot of stuff going on from barbecues to things like bouncy castles for kids to play.”

As part of the free event, fans get the opportunity to receive autographs and take pictures with the players.

” I love the opportunity to get the autographs from the players kind of walk around talk to them,” one Lions fan who drove up from Surrey told CJFC Today.

For others, it’s their first time being apart of the annual event. “I didnt really realize that there was FanFest like this i didnt know the event was like this,” another fan who made the trip from Merritt said.

As much as the fans enjoy the interactions, the players feel a sense of joy putting a smile on their faces.

“Its about the impact,” Defensive back T.J. Lee said. “How you can simply change their lives with one word or one hug and the smiles. the smiles you get to bring on their faces, the smiles they bring on your faces. It’s just a good inner connection between player and person.”

The Lions continue with training camp until Friday morning before they hit the road to Regina, SK and face the Saskatchewan Roughriders in their first pre-season game on May 27.
