Deal Hunters be warned! City of Kamloops auction set for next week

KAMLOOPS — You might be after something specific, maybe you’re just interested in looking, or maybe you just have some money burning a hole in your pocket.

Whatever the case, the City of Kamloops Auction has something that should pique anyone’s interest – especially if you like a good deal.

“We certainly are bigger than last year,” Team Auctions Regional Sales Rep Gordon Gerrits tells CFJC Today. “We’ve got lots of bikes again – about 40 more bikes than last year, some really nice ones. Even some electric bikes. A dirt bike, scooters – there’s a lot of stuff here.”

Some of it is stock that the City doesn’t need or can’t use anymore. Some of it, like many of the bikes, has been recovered by or turned into the Kamloops RCMP.

“A lot of this stuff is from the RCMP or the Community Services Department – lost and stolen items,” Raymond Sisons, the Procurement and Inventory Manager for the City of Kamloops, says. “Also we have a lot of obsolete and dead stock from the City of Kamloops.”

Historically, city staff would post individual items to a different auction website, but with the volume of material up for sale, that just becomes too much work.

“We just decided it made sense to do a mass auction,” Sisons says. “The administrative costs and the time spent posting everything is exhaustive.”

With no reserve pricing on the items and bids starting at just two-dollars, there are some hot deals to be had.

However, some of these items actually are “hot” – they’ve been recovered by RCMP – so if you recognize something that might belong to you and would like to get it back, you can email purchasing@kamloops.ca and jennifer@teamauctions.com and they’ll put it aside.

“If you happen to see one on our website that you say ‘Hey, that’s mine’ – give a call,” Gerrits says. “We’ll pull it aside and between you and the police department, you can figure out what to do.”

The auction gets underway Thursday, May 25th and runs until Sunday, May 28th, but you can head to Valleyview Arena to take a look starting on Tuesday.

You have to be registered to bid on the items, so make sure you visit Kamloops.ca/Auction to sign up.
