Council to discuss asking province to butt out of Kamloops land use decisions

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Councillor Nancy Bepple wants the City of Kamloops to mark its territory.

Bepple issued a notice of motion at Tuesday’s regular meeting, calling on the city to push back against the provincial government’s Homes for People program.

The motion notes the provincial program will assign housing targets to certain cities and supersede municipal land use decision-making authority.

Giving examples of how the City of Kamloops has met housing targets in recent years, Bepple’s motion calls on the province not to interfere with the city’s purview over making decisions on land use.
