CACHE CREEK, B.C. — Flooding has impacted highway traffic in the Village of Cache Creek.

DriveBC announced at around 11 p.m. Tuesday (May 2) that Highway 97 at Stephenson Road in Cache Creek was closed in both directions due to flooding. Nearly two hours later, DriveBC added that Highway 1 at Collins Road was also closed.

A northbound detour is available via Highway 97C at Highway 1 while a southbound detour is available via Highway 24 at Highway 97. Another update is due at noon Wednesday.

Elsewhere, under its state of local emergency due to the flooding, the Village of Cache Creek expanded its evacuation order from one property to five.

Residents are told to pick up sand and bags near the old recycling area near the post office, in the library parking lot on the Trans Canada Highway and on Winchester Road.

The highway closures and expanded evacuation order comes as the B.C. River Forecast Centre issued a flood warning for the Lower Thompson region, including Cache Creek and other smaller waterways west of Kamloops.
