Serious collision on Highway 1 snarling traffic in Dallas

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE (11:40 a.m.): B.C. Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) says it was contacted about a motor vehicle incident at about 9:56 a.m. Tuesday.

Two ground ambulances and one air ambulance were sent to the 8900-block of the East Trans Canada Highway.

Paramedics transported one patient to hospital in critical condition.

UPDATE (11:30 a.m.): DriveBC says an assessment is underway, and the stretch of Highway 1 is estimated to reopen at 1 p.m.

Another update is due at 12:30 p.m.

UPDATE (10:55 a.m.): Kamloops RCMP are asking drivers to use Shuswap Road as a detour.

In a news release, Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says the westbound lanes of Highway 1 are closed between Lafarge Road and Kokanee Way due to the collision. Eastbound drivers are also asked to avoid the highway if possible due to a police presence in the area and traffic control measures.

An update will be provided when available.

EARLIER: A serious crash has halted highway traffic in east Kamloops Tuesday morning.

DriveBC first reported a vehicle incident in the westbound lanes on Highway 1 near Campbell Creek at around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (May 2).

Photos and video sent to CFJC Today show a helicopter and multiple emergency vehicles on scene.

Sgt. John Edinger with Kamloops RCMP told CFJC Today that traffic will be impacted for a significant amount of time.
