Fuel thefts on the rise, tires deflated in Salmon Arm

SALMON ARM, B.C. — Fuel has become a hot commodity for thieves in the Salmon Arm area, which may have something to do with the rising prices.

“The Salmon Arm RCMP have been seeing a rise in fuel thefts from bulk tanks as well as business and private vehicles in the area,” S/Sgt. Scott West said.

West said while diesel has been the main target, gasoline has also been targeted.

“If you have fuel stored in bulk, please do your best to lock those tanks and monitor them regularly,” West advised.

The officer added if you notice anyone wandering around in neighborhoods with buckets or gas cans, please call in a report of a suspicious person and to report any fuel thefts to the RCMP so they can track the numbers.

Meantime, someone, or perhaps a group of people, has been causing stress and anxiety for vehicle owners in Salmon Arm which police are investigating as mischief.

RCMP say up to 30 vehicles had one or more tires deflated while in the parking lot of a sporting event, a government office and at a local business on Friday, April 21.

“At this time, investigators are following up on the information that the RCMP received from the general public,” West said. “If you have information which you feel will further the investigation, please contact the Salmon Arm Detachment of the RCMP at 250 832-6044 or leave your tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).”
