Kamloops Fire Rescue puts out structure fire in Mount Paul industrial area

Apr 21, 2023 | 5:30 AM

UPDATE (9 a.m.): Kamloops Fire Rescue reports no injuries following Thursday’s structure fire on Okanagan Way.

Deputy Chief Ryan Cail says 23 firefighters responded to the Mount Paul industrial area fire and saved most of the building, although there was some interior damage due to the fire and smoke.

“When it’s a vacant building like that… it’s much safer for our crews to extinguish as much of the fire as they can to make an interior attack,” Cail told CFJC Today. “They did a good job of keeping it contained from surrounding buildings.”

Residents are asked to stay clear of the building as KFR investigates the fire’s cause.

EARLIER: KAMLOOPS — Black smoke and large flames could be seen as a structure was on fire in the Mount Paul industrial area early Thursday (April 20) evening.

The City of Kamloops said Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) responded to the fire shortly before 6 p.m. and had it under control at around 6:30 p.m.

In a post to social media at 7:30 p.m., KFR said crews were finishing mop-up on the scene.

More to come.
