KAMLOOPS —The Honour House Society is currently touring British Columbia and the Yukon to raise awareness and support for Honour House and Honour Ranch. The two facilities provide free support to active duty and retired members of the armed forces as well as first responders.

Wednesday afternoon (April 19), the ‘Tour of Honour’ stopped by the Kamloops Legion, speaking with local veterans about the important service they provide in our province. Legion president Daniel Martin presented the society with a donation of $5,000.

“They run on people that volunteer their time. It’s all free for men and women in uniform to go there and try to get better when they have PTSD or are dealing with a health issue. As a legion, that is what we strive to do — it’s help veterans and their families, so it all kind of meshed together. It’s important that we recognize that as a legion,” said Martin.

The wider region of legions also donated $3,000 earlier this month to dedicate a bench at the Honour Ranch site near Ashcroft.

The donations are helping the society storm toward its campaign goal of $500,000.

“Every bit of that is going to go toward helping our men and women in uniform to provide them the services they need when they need them. In terms of a place to stay in the Lower Mainland at the Honour House if they are requiring any medical aid, including their families, free of charge. And then we have money going towards building new cabins at Honour Ranch,” said Honour Ranch Society Volunteer Mark Philip Magitibay.
